In 1992,
Doug & Sally Beitz were looking to do something 'different'.
Doug was a firefighter on Australia's Gold Coast,
whilst Sally looked after their 3 young boys. They
originally dreamed up the idea of building a resort
in Micronesia after watching
a TV documentary on Micronesia and then stumbling
across an article in a magazine about the business
opportunities there.
With a dream in his heart, Doug embarked
on a one month exploration of Micronesia to find
which island would be their new home. Kosrae was
the third island he visited.
After only a 10 minute drive from the
airport, Doug
marveled at the beauty of the island. That dream
started to burn in his heart more
than ever, and he knew that this was it.

After much research & hard work,
they opened the resort in October 1994.
After
a stint back in Australia for the children's
education, Doug & Sally moved back to resume the management
of the resort in December 2004. With an eye for
detail and a heart
for customer service, they have instilled their vision
of exceptional customer service into the Nautilus staff.
